Theme: NLP for East India, North East India and Southeast Asia – Bridging Borders, Building Resources
RegICON 2026 invites original research papers, tool demos, and applied NLP works focusing on computational linguistics and language technologies for the low-resource, linguistically diverse regions of East India, North East India and Southeast Asia. This cross-border regional conference—organized in-person at Gauhati University, Guwahati—aims to build shared linguistic resources, foster collaboration, and develop scalable solutions across underrepresented languages.
The scope of the conference includes, but is not limited to: (Submitted work must be on at least one native language of East India, North East India or South East Asia)
NLP for low-resource and endangered languages of East India, North East India and Southeast Asia
Multilingualism and code-switching in digital texts
Morphologically rich language processing
Speech technologies and ASR for tonal and agglutinative languages
Lexicons, WordNets, and annotated corpora development
Machine Translation (MT) and Cross-lingual NLP
Named Entity Recognition, PoS/UPoS tagging, and parsing
Orthography, transliteration, and multi-script handling
Digital preservation of indigenous and tribal languages
Language identification in multilingual and multiscript contexts
Ethics, inclusion, and policy in regional NLP
Any other topics relaveant to NLP of East Indian, North East Indian and South East Asian Languages
Focused Languages: Languages from East & North East India (including West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim); Languages from Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Timor-Leste)
